Young Call Center Workers Encouraged To Finish Studies

By Michelle Amodio, Workforce Management Contributor

When it comes to the call center workforce, completing studies is key to continued success. While that may seem like an obvious statement, the trend in the BPO industry and for the call center workforce in general is that it is typically comprised of young employees who have yet to complete their higher education degrees. According to the Department of Education-Cordillera in the Philippines, the value of completing formal education is immeasurable.

For those who otherwise may not be able to pursue a higher degree, working in the BPO field as a call center agent is attractive because it is employment that can offer training and boost interpersonal skills, but it still doesn’t replace the time and effort spent in a classroom. Call center companies in general do not require higher ed degrees, and so the only required skills are usually English-speaking. The rest will come with formal training.

Call center jobs also mean being able to attain an income while looking towards getting a degree. Often times, call center agents aren’t able to attend a university due to financial constrictions, but a steady income can help achieve that goal.

This highlights an important problem when it comes to workforce management in general, that hiring educated employees is key, but getting education for employees isn’t always easy. It’s hard to figure out which problem to tackle first; making education more easily accessible while also offering jobs to get said education. Not everyone has the same privileges available to them.

Education provides us with knowledge about the world. It paves the way for a good career. It helps build character. It leads to enlightenment. It lays the foundation of a stronger nation.

Expertise is an in-depth knowledge about a specific field and it's ought to open doors to brilliant career opportunities. Education fetches better prospects of career growth. Good education is an eligibility criterion for employment in any sector of the industry. Be it any field, education always proves to be rewarding. We are weighed in the market on the basis of our educational skills and on how well we can apply them.

Perhaps it is up to companies to offer more flex time for studies and offer incomes to employees that can help them achieve a higher education degree. Some companies offer tuition reimbursement plans that acts as investment in their workforce for the betterment of both futures.

Education is important for the social development and economic growth of a company. While getting an education doesn’t always have a clear-cut path, it is in the best interest of both employer and employees to seek ways to make it happen.
