The Millennial Generation Needs a Comprehensive Mobile Workforce Strategy
Mobile devices have become a ubiquitous part of the workforce, and mobile workforce management is extending the boundaries of the workplace, offering flexibility and productivity advantages for workers and employers alike. The need to manage an increasingly mobile pool of workers is on the rise, particularly as Millennials make up a larger portion of the workforce and Gen Z gears up to follow suit. Having a comprehensive mobile workforce management strategy in place is becoming a mandate for employers.
Millennials already make up the largest portion of the U.S. labor force – Pew (News - Alert) Research puts it at 35 percent of the total workforce. Gen Z makes up roughly five percent, with that number growing daily. Mobility might just be the most important way to engage with these workers, as businesses with mobile engagement strategies have learned. Yet, surprisingly, only 29 percent of millennials are engaged at work, according to research from Gallup, and only 44 percent of millennials receive regular feedback from their employers. A lack of engagement means roughly $30.5 billion is lost annually due to low productivity and failure to engage.
By creating a comprehensive plan for mobile communications and management, employers can harness the power of mobility and omni-channel communications to drive productivity and success among these workers. Engagement technology solutions enable organizations to personalize communications among team members, and are a vital part of any business plan.
Mobile engagement and management strategies include facilitating frequent communications and interactions between managers and workers, providing valuable opportunities for coaching, feedback and encouragement. That leads to happier and more engaged workers who are more likely to tackle challenging tasks and strive for productivity. Simple mobile interactions offer a way to praise and reward the efforts of these workers, as well as offer constructive criticisms and development opportunities in areas that need improvement and attention.
A mobile management strategy can also automate routine tasks and communications, which is a major asset for everything from scheduling, delegating tasks and making routine announcements to the workforce. That equals productivity and efficiency increases as well as a more engaged and informed workforce.
Considering the myriad benefits of having an engaged workforce, developing a mobile workforce management plan is basically a necessity. By harnessing the power of mobility and technology, employers can ensure their employees are appreciated, challenged and engaged, improving the overall quality of the workforce.
